Sam Ash Music San Antonio is hosting our 3rd annual “Memories with Melodies” concert to support the
Alzheimer’s Association’s “The Longest Day”, June 21st from 10A-9P. The current statistics for Alzheimer’s Disease are staggering. 1 in 6 Americans dies with Alzheimer’s disease or some form of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease does not just affect memory, it also affects muscle memory and the body’s ability to perform it’s normal functions, such as swallowing and coughing, which leads to bouts of pneumonia that are potentially deadly. It is the most expensive disease in the world because there is no money for memory care. Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare do not cover memory care; this affects many families who cannot afford the out of pocket expenses. Family members often quit jobs to care for loved ones cutting their household income by as much as 60%.
The 3rd Annual Memories with Melodies concert is organized by Angela Perez, the operation’s manager in San Antonio. She lost her mother to Alzheimer’s disease 3 years ago and is a fierce advocate for caregivers and the challenges that they face. The money raised from these events has totaled over $10k and this year we are expecting to raise another $10k. This money goes to research for a cure as well as programs to support the families bravely living with Alzheimer’s disease.
The “Memories with Melodies” concert was designed to celebrate these families and their efforts through the healing power of music.
The day will include live music every hour, raffles every hour and silent auction items. This year’s event is more special and successful than ever. Angela has reached out to many of our partnering companies in the Music Products industry including Taylor, Ovation, Mackie, Ampeg, Presonus, Ibanez Guitars, Electro-Voice, Epiphone, Roland, Boss, Samson, Fender, D’addario, Evans Drumheads and Schecter, and they all have been touched by Alzheimer’s disease as well and are more than happy to be a part of such a great event. She has also enlisted local companies such as Las palapas, Ann Pearce jewelry, Capparellis, Espresso Amore Mio and Event the San Antonio parks and Recreation Department to be a part of the Memories with Melodies Team.
This is a family friendly event, San Antonio Parks and Recreation will have activities for the kiddos and health screenings for adults. There will be a caricature artist on hand to do portraits and we have a piñata for the kids. Presonus Audio will be on hand making their famous Jambalaya for a $10 donation with iced tea provided by Las Palapas. Zach Arntz from Taylor guitars will be on hand to restring guitars with guitar strings donated by D’addario for a $5 donation, we will also be putting fresh Evans Drum Heads on drums for a $10 donation.
There are some very special items this year, Brad Paisley so graciously autographed 2 guitars for our silent auction; one is the Road Worn Fender Tele that he designed and the other is an Epiphone Masterbilt AJ45ME. Taylor donated a K28E acoustic guitar and Schecter designed another one of a kind guitar for silent as well, it is a Solo 6.
Ovation Guitars donated an Ovation Celebrity Standard Balladeer in honor of Glen Campbell, who’s wife Kim Campbell made a special trip to our store to see and autograph. Kim Campbell is the founder of Careliving.org which does so much to help these families as well, she was excited to see what we are doing for the caregivers and has given her support to this event as well. This item is up for raffle, the tickets for this item are $10, you do NOT have to be present to win this item.
The music lineup for the day is filled with great performers to include the Red Floors, led by Texas State Representative Pancho Navarez, the San Antonio Parks and Rec Band “Little Rocket”, our own Sam Ash San Antonio house band “Memories with Melodies” and the Great Augie Meyers will be closing out the day!
