Chet Atkins
Chet Atkins

As we here at Sam Ash our celebrating our 90th Anniversary, we also want to take time to celebrate Chet Atkins, who would have been 90 had he lived to this day. Born June 20, 1924 in Luttrell, Tennessee, the “Country Gentleman” was a real beast on the guitar. His playing is smooth, dreamy, and with unique voicings that have continued to inspire guitarists from all over the world and in many genres. Take a look at this video clip and see if I’m wrong:

If you’ve been inspired by the  music of the “Guitar Man,” you’ll surely enjoy playing his signature Gretsch guitars. Choose from the Gretsch 1955 Chet Atkins Solid Body Electric Guitar, the Gretsch Chet Atkins Hollow Body Guitar, and my favorite, the Gretsch 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Hollow Body Guitar.

These instruments won’t make you play like Chet Atkins, but if you can learn how to, you’ll have the right tool for the job. So, get started on the right foot and pick up a Chet Atkins Guitar method book from Hal Leonard while your at it. Now, get pickin’!
