Chris Thile on D'Addario Strings

Mandolin phoenom and 2012 MacArthur Fellow Chris Thile knows no boundaries, tackling bluegrass, country, jazz, and classical music on recordings with his bands Nickel Creek, Punch Brothers, and in his solo work. The “Genius Grant” recipient also won the national mandolin championship in 1993 when he was just 12 years old.

In the video above, Thile talks about why he uses D’Addario strings. It’s a nice little snapshot of his endearing personality and a brief introduction to his mad skills. (It also provides a nice closeup of Thile’s sweet Gibson mandolin.)
