Ira “The Magician” Hoch, Esq., is a near 30-year veteran of Sam Ash Music, minus some time taken off to earn his law degree. A guitarist for 40+ years, Ira was once at the helm of the Guitar Department at the Sam Ash Music store in Forest Hills, New York. Before that, Ira was a recording engineer at New York’s famous Record Plant Recording Studio, where he worked with a lot of diverse artists and received a platinum album and cassette for the KISS “Crazy Nights” album. A player of both electric and acoustic guitars, Ira’s main axe is his 1965 Gibson SG Special, which he likes to play with “just a touch of ‘verb and delay.” When not setting up his own instruments to his liking, Ira is busy perfecting his skills as a close-up magician and actor. So, when you need the best deals on guitars, amps, and live sound gear, be sure to give Ira a call and let him work his magic for you.

Can't Live Without:
I can't live without my 1965 Gibson SG Special in Cherry with two P-90 pickups. I've owned it for over 30 years and bought it from my friend Bruce Kulick who was formerly the lead guitarist with KISS, and is currently playing with Grand Funk Railroad, as well as having a solo career as a premier guitarist. The SG was Bruce's first electric guitar and he played it on tour with George MacRae in the 1970's when George toured in support of his song "Rock Your Baby", as well as on his first band KKB's album. It has an extremely comfortable, slim neck, and the P-90 pickups are very fat sounding and have a lot of tone. I've never played another electric guitar that I've ever owned that feels or sounds as good as that SG Special.
My main musical influences include The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver, Jim Croce, Tommy Emmanuel, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, Jeff Beck, Meat Loaf, Joe Jackson, and of course both Bruce and Bob Kulick (I've known the two of them for about 40 years and have learned a great deal from both of them). As a recording engineer, I was greatly influenced by Geoff Emerick, who recorded most of The Beatles hit albums. I like all styles of music from rock to blues to pop to folk. Mostly music that is guitar oriented so I can play along.
"I just wanted to take the time to send some positive feedback on some fantastic customer service I recently received by one of your representatives, Mr. Ira Hoch. Ira, calmed me down, walked me through my options, helped solidify my decision and gave me a fantastic deal to boot!" - Cory H.
"It was a pleasure talking and doing business with you! My husband is looking forward to playing the new guitar! They shipped it out right away Monday night---another example of great service by Sam Ash!" - Jodie V.
"Ira was great at helping on anything I needed and made ordering fun. When items were out of stock, he helped me find something similar. I think he deserves recognition of a higher caliber" - Doug A.
"Thanks for the follow-up call the other day. The equipment you’ve sold me is working out just fine. I’ll be sure to give you call the next time I need an instrument or some audio gear." - Tom H.
"I received the guitar yesterday and I am extremely pleased with it. I probably played it for about three hours yesterday. It's not easy for us lefties to find a quality guitar at a reasonable price." - Dave
"10 minutes after I hit the send button the Fed Ex truck pulled up. 2 Taylor guitars ready to unbox and join the Gibson. Thank you so much. With fresh guitars comes fresh music. I look forward to sharing it with you" - Bobby
