Matthew has been a performer for over half his life. He began singing in his elementary school chorus at 8 years old, eventually being invited to perform with the All County Chorus four times and participating in NYSSMA twice where he received high scores. Around the same time, he began playing trumpet. After two years in the school band, Matthew abandoned the trumpet and picked up a guitar. He has been playing guitar and writing songs since the age of 11 and performing live since the age of 13.
Having recieved a certficiate in Studio Recording Technologies from Nassau Community College, Matthew has a knowledge and understanding of recording and live sound. He leads the band Nifty Breed, an alternative rock power trio that has garnered praise throughout the East Coast and Mid-West and opened for the likes of Smile Empty Soul, Local H, and CKY. Matthew owns two Reverend guitars (a Sensei HB-FM and a Kingbolt RA) strung up with D’Addario strings, a Marshall JCM2000 DSL100 and has quite an impressive pedal board.
Can't Live Without:
My Reverend Sensei HB-FM, which I've named Sybil. I bought her about 3 years ago specifically to take on a 2-week tour. I had the guys at Reverend replace their stock humbuckers with a set of Railhammer Chisel pickups. This was my first foray into 24.5" scale necks and I've personally found it to be much more comfortable than 25.5" scale. It also stays in tune like a champ as I was able to change strings at a venue in St. Louis (super quickly thanks to locking tuners) and play a set with no problems hours later. For the moment she is retired from gigging, but she easily became my favorite guitar.
