About Gewa

GEWA pianos are produced in the Vogtland region of Germany, an area with a rich and storied tradition of musical instrument design and production. These days the Vogtland region is also home to many suppliers of the latest digital technology including microprocessors , circuit boards, and more. GEWA’s close relationship and distance to these various companies allows them to place stringent quality control on each and every component of their Pianos. Only when these standards are reached will GEWA issue the “Made in Germany” emblem seen on their instruments.

Sound Design

The centerpiece of the GEWA UP series of Upright digital pianos is the incredible grand piano sound emulation. Captured directly from the Steinway D-274 Grand piano within a state of the art recording studio in Hamburg, GEWA has employed the latest digital technologies for the most authentic digital recreation of a grand piano you will come across. These include VSRC which helps the UP series produce the exact vibrations and resonance decay of the Steinway, in addition to the NAND flash memory system which allows the piano to deliver 256 voices without any loops. It’s literally a key for key recreation of the D-274, albeit in a much more compact and affordable form. However, the UP280G also provides incredible emulations of strings, choirs, basses, and some absolutely stunning church organs.

Authentic Feel

GEWA designed their digital pianos keybed to the well-known “Concert-Pianist” resolution to match the feel of an acoustic grand. This is achieved through the use of 3 distinct contact points and keys that have been carefully scaled, calibrated, and weighted to strict standards. The FATAR keybed uses a patented lever/spring mechanism for the perfect amount of resistance.

Convenient Features

While GEWA pianos do a fantastic job of recreating the sound and feel of the world’s most expensive acoustic grand pianos, they also incorporate many modern features you will love. This includes an onboard bright LCD menu to quickly navigate and select from the over 30 different on board sounds. It also gives you quick access to the onboard sequencer if you want to layer sounds for complex performances. Ideal for students, the UP280 also offers 4 Hand Mode which divides the keyboard in half so students can play side by side with an instructor in the same octave range. The UP series also offers Bluetooth so you can wirelessly stream your favorite tracks from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop. You can also connect your music source via USB for higher quality playback. There are also two headphone outputs for quiet practice. The built in speaker offers impressive power for outstanding projection.
