The legendary L-5 was originally born as an acoustic guitar in 1922 under the direction of renowned Gibson luthier Lloyd Loar. The L-5 was Gibson’s first guitar to feature a pair of f-holes and had became one of Gibson’s most popular models even before it was reintroduced with a set of P-90 single-coil pickups and a rosewood bridge in 1951.
Today, the Gibson Custom Shop L-5 CT offers strikingly elegant aesthetics along with all the tone and playability that you’ve come to expect from a Gibson archtop. Yielding a gorgeous hollow body resonance and a rich, woody voice, the single cutaway hollow body is crafted from a high-grade carved solid spruce top paired with flame maple back & rims. A Natural finish brings out maple’s stunning figure while single-ply bound f-holes and binding on the top, back, neck & headstock enhance the L-5 CT’s premium vibe. Carved from high-quality figured maple and walnut into Gibson’s comfortably rounded ES profile, the neck features a 25.5″ scale length, a cozy 1-11/16″ nut width and an ebony fingerboard. Gorgeous pearl block fingerboard inlays and an ancient Greece-inspired pearl headstock inlay cater to its top-shelf looks.
Powered by a pair of Gibson ’57 Classic humbuckers, the L-5 CT delivers all of those rich, warm vintage tones reminiscent of old-school PAF-equipped Gibsons. These pickups are routed through a classic control layout consisting of a 3-way pickup selector and independent Volume & Tone controls for each pickup.
Rounding out this deluxe, high-performance Gibson hollow body, the L-5 CT comes fitted with gold-plated hardware which includes a set of Schaller M6 tuning machines, an ebony-based ABR-1 bridge and a tastefully appointed L-5 trapeze tailpiece. Comes with the full protection of a hardshell case and includes the Certificate of Authenticity.
