At age 70, Jeff Beck is still touring strong as one of the most consistently innovative musicians of his generation. Born June 24, 1944, Jeff Beck replaced Eric Clapton in The Yardbirds. Later he formed the Jeff Beck Group featuring lead vocalist Rod Stewart and Ron Wood on bass guitar (both formerly of The Faces). But it was his solo work starting with 1975’s Blow by Blow that proved he was not an artist who would rest on his laurels. Since then, he has carved new lines in the world of rock, jazz, and instrumental music, and he’s been kicking ass all along the way. So, on this 70th birthday, we salute you, Jeff Beck. We can’t wait to see what else you have in store.
