Sam Ash Music San Antonio Helps Raise Awareness for Alzheimer’s

On June 21st, 2017 Sam Ash Music San Antonio had the honor of hosting the Memories With Melodies event as part of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Longest Day Fundraising Effort. The Longest day is a free form event that encourages people all over the world to honor the strength, passion and endurance of those facing Alzheimer’s Disease. Organizers of the Longest Day encourage participants to choose an activity or theme that represents the hobbies, interests or passions of a friend or family member living with the disease.

The 2nd Annual Memories with Melodies team was organized by Sam Ash San Antonio’s Operations Manager Angela Perez. The Longest Day event was a cause that really resonated with Angela whose mother passed away 2 years ago due to complications with Alzheimer’s. In order to make this year’s Longest Day a truly special and successful event, Angela facilitated participation from various companies in the Music Products Industry including Electro Voice Professional Audio, Presonus, Dangelico Guitars, Schecter Guitars, Samson Technologies, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, Tama Drums, Ibanez Guitars and more. Through outreach to the local San Antonio community, she also got local companies like Taco Cabana, Espresso Amore Mio, and even the San Antonio Parks and Recreation department to be a part of the Memories with Melodies team.

In addition to raising money for the Alzheimer’s Association, the Memories with Melodies event was also a true celebration of the healing power of music for both people battling the disease as well as their caregivers. Participants were treated to a full day of live music with a different band performing every hour, including performances from students of the Sam Ash Learning Center. Visitors also had the chance to win various raffle prizes including guitars made specifically for the event from Dangelico and Schecter. The store was also used as a safe space for people to learn more about the disease with tables sponsored by Long Term Care Facilities, Free health screenings, and a donation box to raise funds.

So far the Memories with Melodies Team has earned $4,330 dollars for the Alzheimer’s Association but the fundraising isn’t over yet. As they look to shatter their original goal of $5,000, we invite you to participate before July 31st by donating here: http://act.alz.org/goto/memorieswithmelodies
