Yamaha studio monitors – and their iconic white woofer – have been industry standards since the 1970s. When the HS Series Studio Monitors were first rolled out, they quickly became a favorite among amateurs and professionals alike. Designed to give you the most honest and precise reference possible, the HS Series offers you a nice, flat response in order to provide an ideal sonic platform to build on throughout the mixing process. Yamaha’s team has worked hard to take the monitors you know and love and improve them even more. Today we will be taking a look at the HS7, part of Yamaha’s second generation of HS Studio Monitors. Featuring newly designed transducers and improved noise reduction, the HS7 Studio Monitors are a great addition to your home or professional studio.

High Performance Amp Unit

All HS Series Studio Monitors feature a bi-amp design with a separate dedicated amp for both the woofer and the tweeter. On the HS7, the 6.5″ woofer is powered by a 60 watt amplifier and the 1″ dome tweeter is powered by a 35 watt amplifier, combining for a total of 95 watts per monitor. Delivering high-resolution sound with exceptionally flat response across the sound spectrum, the HS7 provides plenty of power for that accuracy that you’re looking for in an HS Series monitor.

Newly Developed Transducers

The current HS line features newly developed transducers that achieve astonishingly smooth response over a wide range of bandwidth. This new design regulates the flow of magnetic response to provide seamless, natural sonic transitions. A highly efficient 1″ silk dome tweeter extends the usable frequency range considerably and delivers excellent high-resolution sound. All HS models are able to deliver smooth, distortion-free high end up to 30 kHz. The woofers allow the HS Series to produce low distortion sound with a well-defined bottom end at any output level. This is achieved with the help of large, carefully selected magnets which help to produce stunning bass and clear, accurate mids.

Cutting Edge Noise Reduction Technology

Speaker port design can greatly influence the clarity of overall sound. Air vibrations can generate inside of the port, causing unwanted noise. Extensive research by Yamaha’s engineers has resulted in the ideal port design. The HS Series features a rear port that utilizes state-of-the-art technology and provides reduction of audible noise up to 6dB. This will give the listener the best response for monitoring. A low resonance enclosure design also helps to eliminate unwanted resonance and increase the accuracy of sound reproduction to their extreme limit.

Controls and Connectivity

With changing environments, a studio monitor needs to able to adapt. The HS Series makes this very simple. Featured on the back are controls to adjust the level, low frequency response (ROOM CONTROL) and high frequency response (HIGH TRIM) of your monitors. You also have two input connection options, XLR or TRS. These monitors can accommodate a wide range of balanced and unbalanced sources such as mixers, keyboards, and audio interfaces.
